What does that mean? I know what it means literally, but is it some kind of idiomatic expression?
The literal translation would be something like coarse salted beef. My dictionary says “boiled beef” – but you can be sure the French idea of boiled beef is very different (and almost certainly more delicious) from the Anglo-American one.
